Cloud Peak Energy, the US's third largest coal producer, raised $459 million by offering 30.6 million shares at $15.00, below the range of $16.00 to $18.00, on Thursday. The company is being spun out of international mining company Rio Tinto, which has been selling assets in order to shore up its balance sheet. Cloud Peak Energy plans to list on the NYSE under the symbol "CLD" on Friday. Credit Suisse, Morgan Stanley, and RBC Capital Markets were the lead underwriters on the deal.
