52 IPOs raised $11 billion in the third quarter, the most active 3Q in 4 years

October 2, 2018

During the 3Q18, 52 offerings raised $11.2 billion, 79% more IPOs than the 3Q17 and more than double the proceeds. It was the most active third quarter since 2014, when Alibaba raised $22 billion. The IPO count was 60% higher than the 10-year 3Q average of 32 IPOs. Venture capital was especially active, with strong deal flow from US biotech and Chinese tech. The quarter might have surpassed the 2014 peak in deal count if not for weakness in the energy, industrials, and retail sectors.
