VA Linux did not disappoint investors on Thursday as it witnessed a remarkable IPO debut. After opening up $299, or nearly 10x its IPO price of $30, the stock traded off slightly to around $260 on heavy volume. The Linux-based systems and server provider is poised to overtake theglobe.com (TGLO) as the all time leader based on first day performance. Theglobe.com, which debuted in November of 1998, finished its first day of trading up 606%. If VA Linux closes the day above $212 per share, it will become the #1 first day gainer of all time.
