Lucent Technologies, which declared in July its plan to spin off its microelectronics business segment some time in 2001, has decided to name this unit 'Agere Systems'. The initial public offering of Agere Systems, which makes silicon chips and optoelectronic components could be the largest IPO in history with estimated proceeds totaling $20 billion.
