Smith Electric Vehicles files for a $125 million IPO

Smith Electric Vehicles, which manufactures zero emission commercial electric vehicles in the US and Europe, filed on Thursday with the SEC to raise up to $125 million in an initial public offering. The Kansas City, MO-based company, which was founded in 2009 and booked $57 million in sales for the 12 months ended June 30, 2011, plans to list on the NASDAQ under the symbol SMTH. UBS Investment Bank and BofA Merrill Lynch are the lead underwriters on the deal. No pricing terms were disclosed.
